There should be restrictions on the availability of abortions in any case, including the health risk to the mother.
The following is quoted from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):
"Inconsistent method use of the oral contraceptives (75.9%) or condoms (49.3%) was the most common reason that women became pregnant and obtained abortions."
(Source: Abortion Surveillance - United States, 2004 [www.cdc.gov])
According to the CDC, in 2003 there were 10 deaths related to legally induced abortions. Four of these deaths followed a nonsurgical abortion procedure. First and second trimester abortions are sometimes performed by FDA-approved medications which go by the names of mifepristone and methotrexate.
What do these drugs do?
The first dosage causes the uterine lining to shed and the second dosage causes the baby to be expelled in a miscarriage. Remember this medication is administered in pregnancies in the first and second trimesters, so how is the baby doing?
According to the Mayo Clinic:
In week #5 - The baby's blood vessels will complete a circuit and his/her heart will begin to beat.
In week #6 - The baby's facial features will begin to form and the digestive and respiratory systems will also begin to form.
In week #7 - The baby's face takes on more definition and tiny nostrils and ear indentations become visible.
In week #8 - The wrists, elbows and ankles are clearly visible and the baby's eyelids are beginning to form.
I won't even discuss the usage of these medications in the second trimester, because by the 20th week the baby is actually kicking.
Be your own judge, is this a baby or not? If you say that it is a baby, then if someone does anything to intentionally stop that heart beat, isn't it murder? If you don't think so, what would you call it?
We are killing millions of babies simply because some people don't have the responsibility and forethought to use a condom. I didn't say it, the CDC did. We want our laws to allow these people to kill their babies instead of giving them the condoms or attempting to teach abstinence to the younger ones.
Some say an abortion is not a gruesome event. Here's just an excerpt from a book, "Won By Love". You will recognize the author, Norma McCorvey, she is the Roe in Roe v. Wade:
"The Parts Room, as we called it, was narrow, with wash basins on one side and medical supplies on the other. Against one wall was a white freezer with the lock broken off. Arnie lifted up a large plastic bag. The contents looked similar to a cut-up chicken,
