This is to teach you how to install a new phone line. By doing so you will be able to save lots of money that the phone companies would love to charge you! This will be easy step by step instructions. Even a child would be able to do this, but with the tools involved not suggested.
First thing is the list of what you will need to get the job done:
1. Of course you need phone wire. Most hardware store carries it and some will
even cut it for you on the spot. I suggest to buy 2 pair phone wire I will explain later why. To run 1 line I would suggest around 100 feet if you have a little left over that's ok, better to have extra then not enough.
2. The next will be a heavy duty drill. I suggest a 24 volt to use.
3. The next is a masonry bit 18 inches. I say that because it will go through
just about anything. Believe me I know from experience. That way if you have
brick, wood, or siding your covered.
4. The next is screwdriver bit, and roker screws about 1/4 inch, or if you have
siding then clear siding clips. For wood and brick the roker screws will work.
You will also want a pair of pliers, a utility knife, and a phillips screwdriver.
5. The next is the phone jack you can buy either single or dual jacks. I prefer
dual but it's up to you. With dual you can later run another line real easily.
Also a good sealant for the hole. You should use clear sealant.
6. Last but not least is maybe a latter depending on where your going to install it
at. If on ground level then don't worry about it. Plus a clear day will also be
a good thing.
Now to put it all together. First thing is find the phone box. Usually it is on the side of the house. Sometimes in the garage or the attic. The way to know which one it is, when you open it up, it should have either green and red wires, or yellow and black.
Next is to determine what room to install the line in and to drill the hole.
Say a bedroom on ground floor. Put your drill bit in the drill and mark a place
right above the wash board. When drilling be very careful and go very slow. Some
people also might want to use goggles for safety. I say be very slow because if it
is siding or wood the outside can chip very easily, especially in the winter time.
I know this from the hard way and you don't have to make that mistake, so take your
time.
Ok after you drilled the whole check outside to see if it went all the way through.
If it did then feed the phone wire through
