Short stories: The muse

glanced up, noticing everyone was staring, and putting the phone away from her ear for one second said, "What! Don't you have anything better to do than evesdrop?" She turned her back on them and resumed her conversation. "I told you to back off! I'm not telling you again to leave me alone!" She shut her phone with nervous jerks and tossed change on the counter for her coffee.

Let's seewho is that woman? Maybe she's arguing with someone and later turns up dead. Did someone over hear anything significant in her conversation? I've never written a murder mystery before. That will take some more thought. More ideas pushed their way to the front of her thoughts.

Her fingers touched the beads, searching for just the right ones. There was green and purple cloisonn, and blue, crismson or crystal faceted, fire- polished glass. There were ovals in mother-of-pearl, and the cool, smooth roundness of hematite. She picked through crucifixes of gold and sterling, and centers depicting Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Which one to choose? This rosary was going to be a gift for Sister Elizabeth. She had done so much for Mary, praying with her and helping her through that rough time last year when her husband left her after 15 years of marriage. Mary wanted to make Sister a very special rosary in appreciation of all of her help and support.

Helen's husband called out from the kitchen. "Coffee's ready and the eggs are almost done! Quit writing and come to breakfast!"

"Okay," Helen yelled back. I guess I need to get up now. She patted her notebook. I'll get back to you guys later.
