Essays: Heartbreak

by Stephen Kerr-Robinson

Created on: October 14, 2008

Rejection, abandonment and heartache are all very things to get over. And unfortunately is something that every single one of us will have to experience. And all of them and some more are things that can cause our hearts to break. During the time of heartbreak it seems as if the whole world has come crashing down on us. But really if you look back on your heartbreak, you may be glad that it happened in some way. And you will realize it's just all a part of being human.

Whenever we as humans suffer heartbreak, it's almost as if we break down completely. And that everything around us becomes somewhat distorted and meaningless. And the main reason for that really is because what has happened has been so terrible we don't notice even the little things around us.

But as we have been broken down due to the heartbreak we learn to build ourselves back up again. Time is a fantastic healer for a broken heart; you certainly have to have patience for it. But in reality we never truly get over a broken heart, there is never a situation where we get our hearts broken. And time goes on, then we our as we were. That just isn't the case, what happens really is that we build ourselves back up to a point where we learn to move on from it.

But there can be cases when we just can't build ourselves back up again. It really depends on the situation, some people aren't as strong as others or don't have the support of others. To build them back up again, it proves too difficult to be able to move on. And even if we do have the support or have proven to be strong enough in the past. Every time we get hurt to a point of heart break, we leave pieces of our heart here and there and too much heart break basically means that we don't have enough to move on from that.

But like most things, not all heartbreak is bad. That may be hard to believe but it is true. Even though the actual breaking of the heart, and living through that is a traumatic experience. But when we learn to move on, in most cases we become a stronger and better person. We even learn from it, as clich as it may seem we learn from our mistakes in life.

There is nothing anyone can say to prepare people for certain heart break. Because everyone is different so we react to it differently, and express our emotions differently. It's not something that can actually be helped by anyone else either, it's down to you. Speaking from experience support of family and friends definitely helps, there's no disputing that. But they can only do so much, it's down to you and you are strong enough to get over heart break.
