How to budget for a new baby
You're pregnant! How exciting! Now, you need to figure out how to get all the things you need for a new baby, and make them fit into your budget. Here are some tips to help you get what you need, and do it all within your budget.
COUPONS and SALES. Use coupons for everything and anything you can. Visit manufacturer websites to sign up with them for coupons that come in the mail. Start a baby registry with many stores and receive more coupons from them. Start clipping any baby relevant coupons from the paper or magazines. Coupons will save you money, but if you find a good sale, and can use coupons you will save even more! Scan your local ads to find sales on baby items that you might use. You can purchase diapers, wipes, bath supplies, and even clothes on sale and with a coupon. These non-perishable items can be purchased even before the baby arrives, providing money savings to you! Buy diapers on sale with a coupon, and stock pile. Buy clothes on clearance this year for next year or beyond. The only thing to be sure of is that you buy items that are not "trendy" and will be out of style by the time you get to them, the incorrect season, or perishable items. If you are buying clothes in advance, buy items that are multi-seasonal. Short sleeved onsies and shirts can be paired with shorts in the summer, or with jeans and a sweater in the winter. These are easy items to stock up on.
SECOND HAND and FREE. When planning for the baby, make a list of everything big that you will need. These include items like a crib, dresser, changing table, car seat, high chair, and even toys. Clothes are another big dollar item. Start watching your local second hand stores, craigslist and freecycle for these items cheap or free. Be sure to look over your items well, some things like clothes, age doesn't matter. But be sure to check your car seat and crib purchases for any possible recalls or safety issues. Any items that you can get cheap or free will ease your budget bottom line.
REGISTRIES. Most parents do register for their new baby. This is a great idea to let others know what you need for the baby, and get some items as gifts, rather than having to buy them yourself. When registering, pay attention to everything that you will need. Don't forget to register for diapers, wipes, bath items, and even bottles. Don't forget mom either, a breast pump, nursing pads, and even stretch mark lotion can be registered for. Register for only those items that you really
