If I had to choose one method to prevent pregnancy, that method would be hormonal birth control. Obviously it does not protect against any sexually transmitted diseases, but if you and your partner are both tested clear, and plan to stay monogamous, this is the way to go for maximum intimacy and pleasure. Obviously no method is 100%, but most HBC methods are over 95% effective, which is nothing to sneeze at. The one thing I will say is, USE AS DIRECTED. Human error accounts for many of the accidental pregnancies that occur while on HBC, especially the daily pill. I implore you that if you have a bad memory, to get the shot or some other method that lasts for a month or more.
Also, if your partner and you are having sex relying solely on HBC for contraception, under the assumption of monogamy, and you cheat, and bring a disease into the relationship, I would consider that to be reckless endangerment. It's your responsibility to own up to your actions in that case because it jeopardizes the well-being of another person. Keep that in mind.
Enjoy yourself, and please be safe.
