Tips for cooking with a toddler

more patient even outside of the kitchen. This will also make the experience more enjoyable for both of you.

Now for tricks of the trade when dealing with a toddler in the kitchen when short on time or when making your sister's wedding cake. Your toddler should be instructed as to when her help is needed and when it is not time for her to be in the kitchen. However, if you need to keep your toddler with you and busy while making an important meal you may need a trick or two up your sleeve. You can allow your toddler to "cook" without helping out with the meal you are preparing. Your toddler can knead store bought prepared cookie dough and then separate it onto a cookie sheet. Provide measuring cups and spoons and have her measure out rice or oatmeal from bowl to bowl. Open a package of jello and have her wisk the jello and milk until it gels and makes pudding. If you have a little one who loves water play have her "wash" all the plasticware while you cook. You get the idea.

Another important aspect of a toddler in the kitchen is knowing what jobs to give her. Here are jobs a toddler can learn and master:

1. cracking eggs

2. pouring pre-measured ingredients in a bowl

3. stirring ingredients in bowl

4. kneading dough

5. adding chocolate chips or the alike to a mixture

6. washing the plastic utensils or cups

7. using a scooper to help fill muffin tins

8. adding pre-cut salad ingredients to the salad bowl

9. rolling up cookie dough into balls or using a cookie scooper

10. present the finished product with help to the rest of the family
