Best golf clubs for beginners

Golf club selection is an important part of the game of golf. The full set of golf clubs offers players a choice of up to 14 clubs on the course. For the beginner, they will want to start with the most suitable clubs.

Probably, it is best to start with a reasonably recent second hand set, as they will be the cheaper option. However, that is not to say a first-hand set would be entirely inappropriate, if you can find some good deals then they will be in better condition.

First or second-hand, more specifically beginners should use more forgivable golf clubs that are easier to swing. In terms of design, those golf clubs that are lighter and geared more towards accuracy than distance would probably be more suitable so as to keep the ball out of the trees!

Looking at a full set of golf clubs, it will come with 7 irons from 3-9. Likewise, a distance club, and then maybe 3 Woods like the 3,5 and 7 in addition to a putter, sand and pitching wedge. That makes up the 14-club set.

However, the beginner should not consider using all these golf clubs out on course to start with. It is best, to use a trimmed down set compromising a selection of irons and woods in addition the putter and wedges. Approximately seven clubs in total.

To start with, the long irons should not be used. Principally because they are harder to swing than the shorter irons. So, it is best to use the 9,8,7,6 irons to start with. Leave the lower ones outs.

In addition, the Woods should be used. The 7 does come recommended, because it can be used off the tee as well as the fairway and is user-friendly. As such, its versatility can be useful for any player. The 5 Wood can also be used for longer distance tee shots.

Generally, the longest club in the bag should not be used to begin with. This is because it can be the less accurate, and requires a more proficient golf swing to avoid trouble with. Forget about the extra distance just stick with the Woods and Irons to begin with.

Of course, the wedges and putter have to be included. Take a pitching wedge as well as a sand wedge, which will enable longer distance pitch shots when out of the bunker. You might include a loft-wedge in the bag, which actually bridges the loft-gap between the pitcher and sand wedge. With regard to putters, a well-marked putter that will assist with straighter putting is something to look for.

Overall, for beginners using the shorter clubs available is best. You can then begin to move up and use longer clubs as you progress.
