Time
Death's mistress counts away the seconds
In its infinity all else is measured
Waiting for no one yet forever waiting
Ticking reality into and out of existence
Fickle understanding posing little resistance
An idea measured in thought
Only there if you think it
Hours, days, months, years
A countdown to the end of everything
A culmination of endless fears
There one moment, gone the next
Kept for infinity in the lines if this text
Immortality made possible by the simple act
Of leaving something behind, keeping it intact
Happiness flies by faster than thought measured in light
Sorrow slows suffering and lingers in darkest night
Pain lasting long while felicity is fleeting
Never making sense but always ticking
Ticking away the moments and memories
Ticking away life... endlessly

It is our crutch.

An hour-glass turned,
