Do You Really Need a Personal Trainer?

A personal trainer sounds like a great idea, right? The attention you will get with one-on-one motivational exercises and support may be your idea of the best way to accomplish your goals. Many people find this is the best way to stick to a course of action when planning their weight loss and body toning. Of course, you know personal trainers are expensive.

However, this has become an accepted method, especially for celebrities, to get their bodies back into shape. Not everyone can afford a personal trainer but if you are truly determined this is the only way you will be able to stick to a regimen to lose weight, become healthier, and keep your body toned, this may be the answer. First decide why you want to hire a personal trainer by reviewing the following reasons:

1) If you cannot seem to stay motivated when it comes to exercising and eating right, you may need the help of a personal trainer. If all your efforts at staying focused and promising yourself that you will stick to a routine seem to fall by the wayside with the beginning of a new day, you may truly need this type of help.

2) If you have had an injury that requires rehabilitation to get back to pre-injury status, a personal trainer can help you to choose the right exercises and prevent further injury. A proper exercise routine will strengthen the injured muscles rather than harming them and causing an extended recovery time.

3) Are you seriously overweight and have tried every exercise and diet known to man? If so, hiring a personal trainer may help you not only by determining what exercises you should do but with tips on eating the right types of food. A personal coach who cheers you on and helps you to make the right choices may be the answer to losing weight and eating right. Many people find they cannot do this by themselves.

4) Do you have a health problem that may interfere with your ability to exercise on your own? If so, to maintain a safe exercise regimen you may need help to ensure that the exercises you are doing is not a stress on your heart, lungs, or other problem areas. Many people with heart disease, asthma, and other physical challenges need to exercise but may need supervision to make sure they are not overdoing the exercise.

These are only a few reasons you may need to hire a personal trainer. If you are considering doing this, you should also know the disadvantages. Here are a few reasons this may not be the right option for you.

Personal trainers are expensive. They normally charge by the hour and this can be from $30 and up.

Many personal trainers are employees of health and fitness centers. If so, a large part of their job will entail getting new members, promoting the programs offered by the health club. This means they have less time to spend with you and sessions should not be rushed.

Certification of the personal trainer does not always mean they are qualified to help you with your personal needs when it involves the right types of exercises. Everyone has different needs when it comes to exercise and health.
When deciding if a personal trainer is a step in the right direction, consider all the reasons for and against before making up your mind. Make a decision based on your needs and resources, not merely because it is the popular thing to do.
