fatter and flatter tires. This gives them a wider surface area, which makes them user friendly in snowy conditions.

Ice Skating

News flash: Ice skating is not just for six-year-olds. Even baby boomers are discovering the health benefits of gliding gracefully on ice. While enhancing balance and coordination, ice skating can burn up to 800 calories an hour. Added side benefits include toning the inner and outer thighs, and sculpting great gluteals. And lest we forget, ice skating is fun!

Taking it Indoors
While outdoor winter activities have their benefits, there will be times when the weather goes from frightful to terrifying. These types of conditions call for indoor alternatives. If you usually do all of your fitness training outdoors, you might not be getting a sufficient amount of upper body strength training. This may be the time to invest in a set of weights, or darken the doors of your local fitness center. For indoor aerobic activity, consider trying something new, such as a Zumba class or other creative cardio activity. Experiment on the indoor treadmill by walking backwards or sideways.

Embracing all four seasons will put you on the path to becoming a healthy, happy and well-rounded person. Embrace winter and master your life.
