Cancer is no death sentence! It is sure to scare you to the point you may consider death but cancer should not cause you to give up on life.
We have nearly all been through the phase where the doctor tells you, a friend, or loved one the diagnosis is cancer. We remember that feeling when our heart sinks to our knees and sits heavily as it tries to go down further. We get that scared feeling that our friend or loved one is going to die soon. We start thinking about how life will be without them and what will we do. All the tears of sorrow.
Then comes the feelings of guilt- could we have done more- should I have or have not done something different. Why does someone have to go through such a thing we wonder. What does someone do to actually get this diagnosis.
Afterwards we start hearing of the treatments and even though we know in the back of our minds that something bad could and will happen we start realizing that death is inevitable. We realize that if our friend or loved one was in a car wreck we would have the same initial reactions and then we would seek the treatments needed. Cancer is the same way.
It is kind of like setting an alarm clock. We all know that death is going to come to us all in time. Whether it is by natural or man-made conditions we all wonder. When you are diagnosed with cancer it is the alarm clock effect. We think we know that there is a set limit on death but there isn't. The doctor gives his best estimate based on the knowledge he has. Everyone is different and cancer's effects are different on each of us.
You know that your time is being measured it is just the uncertainty of the time piece itself. So come the treatments, and the hospital visits and stays and then we start feeling a little better for awhile, then relapse. Then better again. This is an ongoing cycle and eventually we get to doing more in life like we used to. Enjoy your life and stay healthy as possible.
With the treatments today, some can be very painful. Live your life like you wish, enjoying every part of it. It is sure to end at some point regardless. Do not let the scare of a word cause your being to give up. How you choose to live your life is your choice and how to die is not totally your choice but you have a major say.
Cancer is a disease that is somewhat preventable and sometimes curable. Live your life and be happy-Take care of yourself and you can pull through this.
