Poetry: Chains

by greeneggsandham

Neath the ground, where all is dark,

the sun has never shone,

I lay, in tears, on dusty floors

So scared, and all alone.

Sorrow tears my empty heart,

And pain enters my soul,

No way in means no way out;

No way to pay the toll.

The chains that bind me bring me down,

So hard to pull away

And since your sheriff in my town,

There's nothing left to say.

I listen to your taunting threats

Each and every day,

Bit by bit, and part by part,

You take my soul away.
