Deciding when to start Social Security

the Government is asking, and even in some cases requiring us to set up other retirement accounts, why can't we roll our Social Security money into that account? At this point that is not possible. We are being told that, because of the instability of the Social Security program we need to prepare for the worst by setting up retirement accounts of our own. If we get a retirement check from a company, and from a separate account before the FRA, the Social Security would be decreased $1 for every $2 we are getting above the maximum limit.

While the funds are there now, and there is certainly time for the government to make provisions for the future. It is up to the citizens to put a fire under them to motivate them to move on this critical issue. Maybe it is time for our government to be held accountable. It might be helpful if it were required that our government officials pay taxes, and have the same requirements as the citizens. After all, the government is supposed to be, "We the people." If they were to experience these issues along with the citizens, they may begin to think a little differently.

Americans are a strong people. We can beat this problem, and we need to be willing to stand up for what it right, while there is still time. Some believe it would be an improvement if farmers, store managers, business men, and educators would run for office, be elected and bring about positive change to the nation in this and many areas.
In any case, deciding when to start receiving Social Security is a serious issue, and you need to contact the Social Security Office near you to ask the important questions. They will usually be able to assist you quickly. Take some time and write down your questions. Be ready, when you talk to the representatives, to ask the questions calmly and with a voice that indicates interest and concern. It is a personal decision. Don't take it lightly, but don't call while you are in the attack mode either.

If you take it at age 62, there is a maximum income requirement. If you wait for the FRA, you can earn ion another job, etc, and not be penalized. Also, the check is higher at that age as well. Wait until you are 70, and the check will be a little higher still. Consider your health, energy level, and ability to work until you are older , when making this decision.
