Poetry: Introspection

Alone and Not Alone

In the darkness,
In the night,
I sit within myself, questioning everything I believe.
There was chaos, there was stillness, there was nothing and there was order.

Then I realized that I can't hear myself,
Can't hear my inner wishes and desires.
I'd shut it all out and wrapped myself in a cocoon of denial, of barely scraping the surface.
I'd shut out love, I'd shut out understanding of myself and of the universe.

Entwined with all matter,
Knowing and wise,
The Earth spinning on the axis in such a balancing act between chaos and order,
All life revolves around itself and each other and yet we all feel so alone.

Maybe if we listen, maybe if we understand
Exactly who we are underneath all of the struggling to survive and the fatigue of existence on this spinning sphere,
We'll find ourselves and others like us in this struggling world.
Maybe then no one will be alone.
