In the human eye, the cornea and lens focus light, creating an image for the retina to process. If the focal point lies before the retina, faraway images will be blurred, but nearby images will come into focus easily. This is called myopia or nearsightedness. If the focal point lies past the retina, nearby images will be blurred, but faraway images will still come into focus. This is called hyperopia or farsightedness. Glasses, of course, are used to correct these conditions.

Glasses also correct vision problems related to near and farsightedness. Among them are presbyopia and astigmatism. Presbyopia is a consequence of age that makes nearby objects appear blurry. Astigmatism, on the other hand, results from an oddly shaped cornea. Eye classes refract the light so that it focuses on the correct part of the retina.
