As Americans we have a lot to be thankful for as a nation on Thanksgiving Day even with the economic disaster and other challenges we face nationally and internationally. While we have seen and are still seeing the economy crumbling in the Fall:2008, the SPIRIT OF AMERICA is alive and well and nothing can destroy it. We will be stronger as we overcome these times as we listen to the words of the great American poet, WALT WHITMAN as he wrote, "I HEAR AMERICA SINGING."
We are a country where so much has been produced in factories in the industrial age and envied by the world. Our country has been on the top of the world with ideas and inventions. Other countries envy us with great Americans like Bill Gates and many others. Yes, we have moved to the information age but there are plenty of pioneers in our midst. Wat Whitman mentions the mechanics, carpenters, masons, boatmen, shoemakers, and wood-cutters in his time. All were singing, "Each singing what belongs to him or her and to no one else, The day what belongs to the day-at nigt the party of young fellows, robust, friendly, Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs."
We have a vast and beautiful country and we need to be thankful for that. People from all over the world are captivated by the beauty of our nation from east to west and north and south. John Denver sang about this beauty. All of us are touched when we sing, "Oh Beautifuf for Spacious Sky...America, America, GOD shed His light on thee." Our public and private parks are sacred spaces to enjoy for all of us.
Americans are a good and generous people. We are there for each other and have helped all over the world.
Our Statue of Liberty is the symbol of how we have welcomed people from all over the world and gave them a chance to fulfill their dreams. We are grateful and enriched by the diversity of people and cultures. We continue to have an open heart by welcoming others.
The people of our beloved country are courageous. Our young men and women have shed their blood to maintain democracy in our country and abroad. We have the best military in the world!
Our universities are amongst the top in the world. Young people come from all over the world to study in America. Many more want to come. Our young people have so many choices in getting a college degree. Universities continue to have timely majors. Each student is challenged.
Our entertainment is enjoyed by the whole world and America is on top in films, music, and all kinds of variety. This
