Sometimes it amazes me how much talent some of these athletes have. Their speed, agility, and determination are almost unhumanlike. It takes a great deal of hard work to achieve the goals they have set forth for themselves. Undoubtably, they should be compensated for the entertainment that they provide for millions of people. Just one question, how much is too much?

I'm not really into watching sports on television, or even in person for that matter. I go to watch my daughter when she participates but other than that, I could take it or leave it. I don't watch the Olympics. I don't even stick around to watch the Superbowl. If a superstar athlete walked up to me today I wouldn't have a clue as to who he or she was. I would much rather spend my time watching current events that actually mean something. Now, I am very aware that as much as I'm not alone in my opinion, there are millions of loyal fans that sit, watch and wait for records to be broken. Some people use sports as the opportunity to gamble. Some people use sports as a way to somehow live out the life they knew they should have had. Whatever the case, there are real die hard fans out there. Ok, to each their own. So, while I'm at a game watching my daughter have fun, I see parents pushing their kids to the point of combustion. These parents are just sure that they are raising the next big star athlete. Surely education is more important, right? Nope. Lucky if some of these kids can even move on to the next grade. However, scholarships are handed out each and every day to athletes in hopes that their going to bring their team to the next big win. Its all in the name of money- all of it.

Ok, so, I'm just trying to get this straight. If you can throw a football straight, with great distance, and are willing to put your body through excessive pain all in the name of the game, you should make millions of dollars? If you can shoot a basket from across the court you should make more than the teacher that taught you in school? Say you can play 10 rounds of golf and nearly make a hole in one each and every time, should you be paid more than the president of the United States? (not that Bush deserves it either) There are doctors saving lives, teachers that teach our children, religious leaders that provide emotional support and healing for the sick or needy, and we're paying these kids (some starting their careers in high school now) millions of dollars to play a sport that was supposed to be played for the love
