Walking outdoors is a soothing exercise all year round but even better during the fall season. If you live in an area where you have the changing of seasons like Northern Eastern Ohio near Lake Erie, it is perfect to walk. As a matter of fact all of Ohio is. The beauty of the changing colors of leaves, the leaves falling, and the wind blowing is stunning and it draws you in to have a closer look. The harvest moon is surreal! If you live in an area where where the seasons are not so evident like California and Florida, it is generally cooler and more conducive to walking.
Wherever you live in the U.S. or world, walking is the exercise which not only has the whole body moving and exercises the body but it soothes the mind and emotions. Let your mind go where it wants to go as you look at that ever changing sky and see the green leaves fa-id away to all kinds of browns, beige's, oranges, and yellow. Let this be a time of meditation, reflection, and getting in touch with your soul as your body moves in rhythm.
Walk at your own pace at least a half hour but if you're a novice just move into it gradually. Your pace will increase in time and you will become addicted to it. You can walk anywhere and anytime as long as it is safe. If you already go to the gym or have other forms of both indoor and outdoor routines at home and in the gym, do add walking to it.
Dawn and dusk are some people's favorite. Others enjoy walking at night as they look at that moon and stars while some prefer the daylight. Walk in your neighborhood, parks, or anywhere you like where you find yourself. The track is perfect for some. If you do not have a sports center with a track just go to the one in your local high school. The rubber will feel great and will speed up your speed with time. There are no distractions, not even pets in most. You'll be inspired by those adults who walk rapidly and those who run. The young people will make you smile with the energy they have and you'll think of those days you were young. Being young at heart just doesn't cut it with the body! The track too is good for people who have problems with their knees, hips, feet, or are in the process of recovery. It is also a place you can lose yourself in the beauty of nature and meditate. Your emotions and soul will be refreshed with little interruptions because those who exercise on the track barely nod.
Walking alone gives you the freedom to go at your own pace but some people prefer walking with a partner or group. Whatever works for you is fine. The main thing is that you are walking. Perhaps you may prefer variation in place and group. Some like music while others prefer hearing the birds, wind, or voices of people. You may like to walk the same place and same time. You'll find your own way!
The great prize in walking if you are faithful is that your speed will increase and you will firm up and lose weight. You will also feel good and enjoy it and in time you'll be running! Your body will have better co-ordination and will be more in tune with your mind, emotions, and soul. Walking is good for all of you!
