Boys come with their own unique take on the world. When my other half and I began dating, he came with a slew of family. Thankfully, I have a niece and nephew as a result. Alex is 7, and he is one of the most intuitive, but strange children I have ever met. His humor far surpasses his age, and his ability to keep his "material" fresh and current is uncanny. His quips get better and better as he ages, and his interpretations of his body are hysterical, but honest. I admire his honesty and blunt nature almost as much as I admire his humor. His comic relief has on several occasions, lightened the mood in a tense room.
He was especially excited for his last birthday. For some reason, he expects 7 to be a magical year. For his sake, I hope he is right. The night before his birthday, his mother was putting him to bed. She appreciates their little chats throughout the day, but the late night talks are often the most interesting. He was getting sleepy, and getting grumpy. Bedtime can be stressful if he is tired; he refuses to do anything. His mother, Mary tried to cheer him up a bit by reminding him of his birthday as she was helping him change into his pajamas. Naked, he stood there; he smacked his belly a few times. Looking down at himself, he exclaimed, "Mommy, tomorrow I will be 7!"
"I know; are you excited?" she asked.
"Yeah. Did you know, Mommy-" he stopped and swayed a little. "Me and Jiggy are the same age!" He calls his little boy parts Jiggy; I have never asked why, but rather just accepted this as fact.
"Yes" she tried to say through her laughter.
"And tomorrow is Jiggy's birthday too!" he screamed as he admired himself, proudly; his eyes were wild with intensity and excitement, but tired and weepy.
"I guess it is," she replied as she tried to put his feet into his pajama bottoms, whilst she tried to maintain composure. Alex can easily be broken from his hilarious streams of consciousness. When he is on a roll, we foster his creativity as best we can.
"We were born on the same day, Jiggy and me," he added. "And tomorrow, we'll both be 7!
Then, he did something that Mary claims might be the funniest yet. While he bantered on about the birth he shared with his boy parts, he pointed down and proceeded to gesture as if he were presenting them in a three ring circus, complete with dramatic antics.
"Me and Jiggy have been together for a long time, Mommy," he said sleepily. As he crawled into bed, he made her vow never to tell anyone what he said. No one could ever keep that story a secret, sorry Alex!
