Want
I don't want
To take my life
And smash it against
The wall
Where scattered shards
Of my snow globe world
Carve my heart from my chest.
I don't want
To try to stand
In rising water
And drown,
Grasping for land
That keeps drifting
Farther and farther away.
I don't want
To wear these shoes
They don't permit me
To walk
They clamp my feet to the ground
And I miss the paths
We used to wander on.
I don't want
To look at the sky
From behind a pane
Of glass
Trying to remember that time
When the sun kissed my face
And the wind laughed through my hair.
I know all these things
That I don't want
But I'll be damned
If I know what I do.
