The toilet concept itself has been dated back to nearly 2750 B.C. It was the end of the sixteenth century where the actual toilet was produced. In 1775 Alexander Cumming was granted the first patent for the toilet. Now toilets are much more modern, and let's face it, some are actually pretty.
Almost all toilets are made from vitreous china. Vitreous china is unique clay that is made up of other clays. Unlike most clay that is fired, painted, and then fired again, this clay gets painted and fired once. The clay hardens, and becomes shiny, it has a protective seal that makes the material waterproof, and stain resistant. Toilet seats themselves are made from either a wood / plastic combination, or polystyrene. Polystyrene is a thermoplastic material.
As any consumer can see when shopping for a toilet seat, there are many to chose from. Let's just start with the basics.
Basic Replacement Toilet Seats: These are replacements for the standard toilet seat for your toilet. These are used when one gets broken, or you choose to replace it.Stone Effect Toilet Seats: These are more decorative toilet seats. They feature the effects of granite and marble.Novelty Toilet Seats: These are also decorative, but much more fun. Novelty seats include humor, characters, nature scenes, etc.Family Toilet Seats: These toilets seats consist of a two part system. One size designed for adults and another for little ones learning to self-potty. It also has a rotating catch, so while your little one is learning, you have one less mess to clean.Safety Toilet Seats: These are designed with the elderly in mind. They provide more stability, and less movement.Raised Toilet Seats: These provide that extra height for those that find that sitting down and getting up difficult. Self Closing Toilet Seats: These are for those that have sons, or husbands that refuse to put the seat down. Most self closing seats have a motion sensor, but some have a remote for those that find the potty disgusting.Portable Toilets: These toilets otherwise known as Port-A-Potties can be rented for outdoor events, or commercial business. Once rented you cover the price of the waste removal and actual rent of product. Recommendation: ONLY USE IF NECESSARY.
Kohler Toilet, Toto, and American stander toilets are ranked as the best in the toilet business. These brands cost anywhere between $150-$500. Most people agree price isn't the main concern. Their real question is "What type of toilet to I want?" Although there are many
