Halloween is a season for everybody, young and old. Images of ghouls, goblins, witches and werewolves bring out an almost nostalgic feeling in all of us. The Halloween season is a time for letting loose and enjoying life in a unique way. Second only to Christmas, Halloween boasts many fun songs from more recent times that beckon us to let loose, forget our troubles for a time, and have fun.
Halloween parties are an opportunity to jump headfirst into nostalgia, get into characters, and delight in the festivities of the season. With these parties in mind, a countdown of the top ten Halloween songs to include in your party list is presented.
10) I Put a Spell on You Screamin Jay Hawkins
Named by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll", Hawkins' 1957 bluesy, eclectic song is perfect for slowing down the party for a spell'. Covered many times over, the haunting riffs of the original are classically suited for any Halloween party.
9) Somebody's Watching Me Rockwell
This 1984 sensation by one hit wonder Rockwell has it all; catchy lyrics, 80's style pop grooves, and background vocals from the King of Pop himself. The ultimate ode to paranoia, "Somebody's Watching Me" is a perfect fit for any Halloween party.
8) Bad Moon Rising Creedence Clearwater Revival
A 1969 breakthrough hit for the early 70's rock band, "Bad Moon Rising" earned its place in the Halloween songbook with its inclusion in the John Landis classic, "American Werewolf in London." The song accompanies the main character's first transformation from man to lycanthrope. The scene is a masterpiece in Hollywood cinematography and the John Fogerty tune provides a satiric lightheartedness to the horror of the scene. All in all, it's a howling fit in the Halloween party song list.
7) Weird Science Oingo Boingo
During the heyday of the new wave era of the early 80's, Oingo Boingo's theme song to yet another twist on the Frankenstein theme hit the club circuit with a vengeance. With its hard driving base-beats and classic new wave sound, this song earns its rightful place on the list of floor-pounding Halloween favorites.
6) Twilight Zone Manhattan Transfer
The Manhattan Transfer's one and only foray into disco employs the eerily familiar theme to the eponymous science fiction series and is a great addition to any set of Halloween songs. With catchy lyrics and thumping dance floor beats, "Twilight Zone" is an irresistible tune for all Halloween lovers.
5) Adams Family Theme
The opening chord
