How to improve your FICO credit score

because those zero balances can actually help your score. I did take the credit cards and cut them up so that i was not tempted to use them.

8. You should check your credit report at least once a year. You are entitled to a free credit report from all three major credit agencies yearly. If there are errors on your credit report, write a letter and request an investigation. They are required by law to respond to you within thirty days. Send copies of any supporting documents and send it by certified mail with return receipt. You can also send a letter to the creditor directly and report you disagree with what they have reported to the credit bureau. If attempts to correct an entry on your credit report are unsuccessful you can ask the reporting agency to insert a explanation to explain your side of the story.

9. If you have been denied credit than you are entitled to a free credit report from the bureau that has the negative information.

Credit is important and needs to be used wisely. If you want to buy a home or a new car and do not have decent credit it will be very difficult for you to make any type of purchases on credit. It is not impossible to improve your credit score but it will take time and patience dealing with each agency. You can turn over a new leaf and make sure you have no delinquent payments and not carry high balances where you can only make minimum payments. This is a road to no where, you need to maintain discipline and not get in over your head. Again, you are the only person who can fix your credit and maintain a good credit record.
