Eradicating problems and obstacles in your daily life

Think of a problem that's been in the back of your mind, or even one that's been a cloud over your head for the past few days. Think of one clear event or quandary. How do you go about eradicating this problem? Do you suppress it in hopes that it won't come back? Or do you tackle it head on?

I've noticed that as I get older, I tend to suppress my "problems". I use problems for lack of a better word. Pushing people away, pretending to be a workaholic (all those retirement jokes weren't just jokes after all), building walls (being robotic is all the rage), hiding from people it works. It works now, it won't work in the long run, but it works now.

So the question here is If you found the root of how you solved your problems, would the information be useful in other situations? A good example would be our emotions. Pushing our anger receptors will result in anger, thinking sad thoughts will make you sad, fond memories result in a feeling happy. Will knowing this help you control your emotions by pushing the correct receptors at the right time?
