My most embarrassing moment at work would have to be from my first job. I can't believe I am going to share this with you because then you will see how naive I once was. My first job was at a local family owned restaurant and I was on the fountain team.
My job and four other sixteen years old girls was to assist the waitresses with whatever they needed. I made side salads, sundaes, and boxed up slices of pies that were to-go orders. We worked with some of the nicest ladies you would ever meet, and some of the sneakiest. Two waitresses that I still talk to this day are Sherry and Judy. Sherry and Judy have been friends since birth, and always celebrate each other's birthdays. Not a card or bouquet of balloons will do, no these two like to embarrass each other at every opportunity.
It was coming to be Sherry's birthday, and Judy was in a fix, she had not overcome the shock of Santa in July for her birthday, and wanted to get even with Sherry. So as we young fountain girls are wiping the counters, and working our area, Judy comes to the rescue of the youth. "Hey girls, got any ideas on how I can embarrass the crap out of Sherry?"
I listened at some of the suggestions from the girls in fountain, (the same girls I attend high school with) and saw that Judy was greatly disappointed with us young girls. Then a brave blonde with a wicked grin suggested a Chip and Dale to come and sing to her. We all laughed and agree that would be hilarious, and me wanting Judy's approval said the most stupid, naive, embarrassing thing that should not be mentioned in public. I told her we could get costumes at a neighbor town for half the cost since it wasn't Halloween time. I told her I would dress up as Chip and she could go as Dale. You know, the chipmunks from Walt Disney!
At first no one said anything, then at once the whole corner exploded in shouts and laughter. It seemed the more they laughed the louder they got. They couldn't even look at me without giggling helplessly all night. For the rest of my shift, I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. As we were standing at the time clock that evening to punch out, the brave blonde with the wicked grin told me what a chip-n-dale was. I felt like an idiot on crack. Did I mention that I work with girls who attended the same high school as me? Well it took about five minutes the next day for the whole school to be fully aware how naive I was, and knew exactly the stupid thing I had said.
For about two months straight anytime anyone saw me I heard the theme song from Rescue Rangers, some kids tried their best to talk in chipmunk voices, and once I was asked if I wanted to go to a girls club (if you know what I mean), they heard Goofy was making an appearance. Well a lot has happened since I was sixteen, I am not so naive, I've never been to a girls club and don't plan on it either, and I don't watch chip and dale cartoons anymore.
