Poetry: Can I love you?

Until You Want Me That Way

Inside of me lies a rotting core

Which pulses with life only when you are near

Its rhythm is uneven and shallow

Until your fingertips touch the bleeding skin around it

The sound of its hollow cry can rarely draw your attention

Because you are seldom here with me

In this shadowed world of hurt and uncertainty

Where emotion is magnified to large proportions

In my mind your words twist into things that make tears fall

Your actions warp into things that warm me

Your hate and anger only draw me closer to you

And I hope our hearts will some day hold each other

I'm silently begging you to bring me back to life

Take this rotting heart and hold it dear

Bring heat to this cold body

Fill this empty soul with emotion and light

Though I know you can bring me only darkness and pain

I still ask for these impossible things

And I'll be patient

And I'll wait forever until you want me that way
