Why dieting makes you fat is because of this:
Your body requires a certain amount of calories to sustain normal daily living. Your metabolic rate is the rate at which your body burns calories. The more muscle tone or muscle mass your body has and the more active you are then the higher your metabolic rate (put simply: the more calories your body burns).
When you cut down on calories drastically or go long periods without eating, your body will go into 'survival mode'. The body will hold on to body fat beacause it is a more efficient fuel source (the body can survive for longer on fat than muscle). So, the body will burn off muscle before the fat. What happens is the body's metabolic rate slows down. You reset your metabolic rate to lower levels. This leads the body to requiring less calories - so when you continue to eat as you normally did your body does not burn the calories as effectively as it did before you started dieting! It's as simple as that!
Follow these simple rules:
1. Eat little and often.
2. Drink between 2/3 litres of water each day (it can help you lose body fat).
3. Always eat a GOOD breakfast - it's the most important meal of the day!
4. Consume your main meal at lunch time (mid-day).
5. Eat a lighter meal at tea-time (5-6pm).
6. Do not eat late at night before going to bed.
7. Snack on fruit in between meals.
8. Consume something every 3-4 hours.
9. Control your calorie intake.
10. Exercise or be active on a regular basis.
11. Make this list part of your lifetyle habits!
