The first step in gaining the attention of a search engine is through the use of key words. And the first place those key words need to be placed is in the title of your website, the subtitle of your website, in your opening words to potential viewers, and throughout the website itself. For instance, the title of my website is Words & Leather, two primary key words, as I'm trying promote my writing and leather care. And below the title, exists the subtitle Flashe Molecule's Leather Care and Writing Site. More primary keywords and an extension of the title. And thirdly, I begin my introduction to the site with my subtitle once more: Welcome to Flashe Molecule's.... I'm sure you get the idea. Plus, when you register that site with the various search engines, you'll be asked to submit a list of key words that describes your site. And by including those key words in your website, you automatically increase the chances of being discovered by those infamous search engines.
The next step is web content, or articles, and there are two steps to this process. First, you're going to describe the product to be sold anyway, therefore you should include content within your website that continuously repeats those very same key words used when registering the website with the search engines. And second, it's a good idea to create content for distribution outside of your website. In other words, you need to pen a few articles about the product you are trying to market or sell, including some form of data and links that points to your website, and place those pieces with the various web content producers on the Internet. This step provides name recognition, as well as more of those key words related to your product and website. If you don't feel comfortable writing, then you can procure generic articles talking about your product and submit accordingly, or you can hire writers to pen a few articles for you. Always make sure to purchase all of the rights of those articles, as it's your name you want to promote.
From that point it's time advertise, and again using those key words.
It should be noted that to maintain a top position in the ratings ladder, Google and Yahoo! charge an annual fee to place your website accordingly. But it takes numerous hits by potential viewers to maintain a top position, and that's where the articles at various sites do their work, as well as the advertisements that direct consumers toward your website.
Happy marketing.
