As I write this article, it's a beautiful spring afternoon in Brisbane (26C), the sun is shining, no clouds in the sky and the temptation to stop work and play is very strong.
However, I have work to do so I need to turn away from the window and get on with the job at hand.
Be honest with yourself, how many times have you felt this way? With no managers to report to, no colleagues to chat with, there's little surprise that on occasion, the motivation of the self-employed work from homer can drop.
Here's some tips on how you can wrestle back your motivation and stop staring out the window thinking I'll work later that garden really needs seeing to.
Exercise
Get those endorphins flowing and enjoy the natural energy booster. A short walk around the block can clear your head and let you come back on focus on the job at hand. The benefits of physical activity are endless including reducing your risk for various diseases, managing your weight and providing you with more energy throughout the day.
Attend a conference/networking event/online forum
Isolation is a real problem for at home workers. Working by yourself means that you don't have a team of colleagues around you to bounce ideas around with, let off steam with or share your work related burdens. Find conferences, networking events or online groups to find other people who work from home or work in the same industry as you. The benefits of these interactions is that it will increase your industry knowledge and contacts, potentially gain new work sources, alliances or strategic partnerships, and create your own team of colleagues. Remember though don't be a taker only an online relationship is the same as a physical relationship it requires give and take your online colleagues are there for you be there when they need you.
Outsource tasks you don't like doing
If your lack of motivation is as a result of having a pile of tasks in front of you that you don't want to do outsource them! Many businesses now exist to help other businesses streamline their processes. If accounting is not your forte outsource your accounts to a bookkeeper. Virtual assistants exist to help streamline your administration procedures and charge on an hourly basis. A virtual assistant can take the headache out of the administration of your business.
To Do Lists
A staple of motivation articles the humble to do list. A to do list does not have to be anything flash it can simply be a piece of paper headed up "TO DO". Simply list the tasks you
