Quite the contrary, Oprah has given away houses, cars, money, you name it and I will wager at least 75 percent of the recipients have been non-black. So the question becomes, when did she start supporting racism or moreover, at what point did she start advocating racism and to what end? Did it start with her support of Barrack Obama for president? The fact that this question is asked reveals the state of race relationship in America. I am not necessarily a fan of Oprah, though I admire her altruism and her seemingly straightforwardness, I believe it is her right to endorse whomever she pleases.
First and foremost, I believe one of the problems America faces with respect to race relationship is that everyone has an opinion and believes he or she must state it, preferably in an open forum. Unfortunately, in our society there is a long held notion that certain cultures must be coddled, manipulated, and directed and when that does not happen, there are those who believe it is their duty to bring them down a peg. To be sure, she has been a bellwether of a sort, but folks have choices and they have free will. These are some of the great privileges in being an American.
I do not believe I ever heard of her demanding someone follow her or listen to her under threat of dire consequences. Both David Letterman and Jay Leno have had political aspirants on their shows on which they have launched their candidacy and there have been no such out cries from the American populace. I am sure there are others who have also supported this practice as it often means higher rating.
Remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his bid for public office In California on the Jay Leno show? I
