Investigating the incident of boredom

Personally, I feel there are three types of people where boredom is concerned. Have you noticed those frantic, always busy with too much to do type of personalities? They are never bored simply because they never give themselves the time to be bored! I have a good friend who falls into this category - she never stops, her energy is exhausting to watch as she takes on more and more and runs herself into the ground. It is almost an obsession to fill the hours of her days running around after other people while her own family get less and less of her time - she's always too busy, too tired or too committed to someone else's problems. Another thing I've noticed about this type (I shall call it Type A) of person is that they are always complaining about how put upon they are and how little time they have for themselves and/or their own family. My friend is never bored, she simply has no time to be bored as she rushes around her life at breakneck speed - always disorganised and always late for everything!

Type B personality is the complete opposite. These people know they should be getting on with the job but just can't find the energy or interest. They complain of being bored even though there are a myriad of tasks that need to be done if they would only just get on and do them. Nothing keeps their interest for long, it's almost as if they actively seek out boredom in order to have something to complain about - try suggesting something to take away that boredom and you'll get a very luke-warm reaction - after all, action requires energy and it's much more peaceful lying on the sofa, complaining about how bored you are! I would consider these people to be chronically bored - if you can manage to drag them off to do something, the boredom will soon resurface since they secretly enjoy being lazy and bored.

Hopefully, most of us fall into Type C personality. For most of us, boredom is an occasional imposition, easily remedied if we really want to. Somehow we manage to balance being occupied and busy with personal couch potatoe time and family commitments. Life runs at a slower pace than our Type A brothers and sisters but we still manage to get most of our daily tasks done and don't suffer from boredom in any great degree, unlike Type B personalities. I like to think Type C people are well balanced, being able to enjoy a little boredom with fortitude in the sure knowledge that they will soon have something interesting to be getting on with. While I believe that we are all born with these personality traits intact, I also believe that we all have the ability to change if we really want to and that no-one needs to be either chronically bored nor manically over worked if they really want to change their lifestyle.
