In order to keep a helpful food journal, you must be disciplined to make entries in it on a daily basis. This is the most vital step and an essential aspect of using the food journal. It can only help you if you make a commitment and follow through.
Getting started is easy. First, decide what you need to record in your Food Journal to make your diet successful. If you are watching your calorie intake, then a diet plan will also be a helpful tool to keep you on track. Your Food Journal can be a simple one to include the foods that you consume at each meal and the calories in each specific food. At the end of the day, add up the calories of all your meals for a daily calorie count. The Food Journal will show you how you are doing and if you stayed within your plan. Also be sure to make notes in your journal. Include times when you experience difficulties or tips that you discover to be especially helpful.
If your diet plan requires more details, then include other pertinent nutrient information in your Food Journal besides calories such as carbs, protein and fat contents of the foods you eat. These facts should be pretty easy to find since most foods contain nutrition labels that include all of that information. You can also find the nutritional content of most foods on the Internet. If you include a chart in your journal that lists the daily recommended allowances of each nutritional item, it will enable you to see your daily goal in each area. This will be another aide to assist you in keeping on track with your diet.
The next step is to set up your Food Journal. You may choose to purchase a Food Journal from a book store or you may want to simply use a notebook to record your entries. But, if you want to be creative go ahead and custom make your own Food Journal using the specifications that you have chosen for your diet plan.
Now that you are finally ready, go ahead and set a date when you will begin using your Food Journal and start tracking what you eat everyday. Once you begin using it, you'll find that your Food Journal is a very helpful tool to ensure your diet success. You won't want to leave home without it.
