Furnace prices: The highs and lows of buying a furnace

to thousands of dollars each. Before you can actually get a price specifically for your unit you will need to talk to a professional installer or salesman.

When it comes to heating and cooling there are no best general answers. You must find out specifically for each home. Your furnace may be different than your neighbors. He could have a two story home with a finished basement and yours may be a single level ranch.Your home could have more windows or less insulation.

Expect your estimates for a furnace be it gas or electric to start in the neighborhood of about $800. You may get lucky and this number be a little less. This should be an average price for a low efficiency furnace for most homes.

This price will go up as the efficiency rating and size of the furnace increase. Remember, high efficiency rating or to large a furnace and you could be burning money. Your contractor or sales person will probably show you furnaces up to about $1800 depending on your home size and the other factors we have discussed.

The price will also reflect any added features you buy such as extended warranties which start around $299. By knowing what is offered and what you need you will be able to make an informed decision as to the type of furnace and price you will pay.
