Why buying lottery tickets is a bad investment

Lotteries are a growing trend; one that sucks you in and doesn't let you go. For some it's an innocent little hobby they partake in once every month or so; but for others they hope it will be their big break, investing money almost daily to play in hopes of finally winning. While the lottery does in fact have a potential to change your life dramatically, the fact of the matter is that only one in a million; often even less than that, actually wins.

As with almost all corporations, there is no altruistic motivation; just the desire to make money. You have to acknowledge that the lottery doesn't just make people millionaires out of the bottom of their hearts; they do it because they make a profit too. You are handing them your money, and they're taking it. That in itself defies all the rules of business; people want a product, but the cold reality is that a million minus one are left with nothing, just a lighter wallet by the end of the lottery.

If a lotto ticket costs five dollars, and you play once a week, that money can burn a hole in your pocket a lot quicker than you think. If you play for a year than you'll be paying a shocking $576! That's $576 wasted; money that could have potentially been multiplied had you either invested it, started something with it, or even left it in the bank to collect interest. It's almost as if you threw that money out the window. If you go on for 20 more years then you've thrown away $11,520! The lottery gets you by only paying small amounts at a time; but it will quickly catch up with you.

The feeling, the hope of winning is sometimes overwhelming. Often times lottery addicts are stuck in the mindset that winning the lottery will be their only chance to get out of their current situation, when in fact playing the lottery may just dig them deeper into the hole. You need to forget chance and take matters into your own hands; if you really want to see results, that's what you'll do. Theoretically you'd need to invest 5 million dollars into the lottery to see any true results; meaning you'd have likely lost any winnings you won just from investment!

I hate using the word investment so loosely however; because the lottery is most certaintly not an investment. It's a gamble. It's no different than going to a casino every week or so and just throwing away $5; the biggest difference being you're a lot more likely to earn some money at the casino compared to the lottery.

Overall, the lottery just isn't worth your time or money. If you keep holding your breath, you might just drown; you need to break free of the lottery and burst to the top, because the lottery isn't going to make your life better. Only you can do that.
