Racism in the Christian church

by Brian Harrington

Created on: October 05, 2008

As of late there has been some speculation as to whether or not there is some type of a racial divide within the christian church by pundits who obiviously have never left their basement long enough to attend a christian mass, no less observe the religion long enough and understand its many complex thelogys and make an accurate assesment as to wheather or not there is truely a racial divide within the church. I can assure you, as someone who has not only studied the reiligion thouroly, but is a practicing cathloic, that no such divide exists as some would have you beilieve. This claim rivals that of lunchmeat causing cancer, an absolutly preposturous claim with no basis other than the fact that someone got bored and figured that it would be fun to speculate on a ridiculously stupid idea. However in both of these instances, the critics did more than just specualte, they talked about it as if it was proven beyond any shred of a doubt. Just as we know that lunchmeat doesnt cause cancer, those of us who bother to study the issue also know that there is no racial divide within the christian church.

Let me start proving this to you by iterating the differnce between christianty and the many "sister" reiligions that where founded by taking the fundemental practices of christians and changing some of the less meanigful cerimonys and beilives around. Methodist and Babtist churches are prime examples of this. They are not christians per say, but the reiligions have many common characteristics, hence the the term "sister" reiligions. These reiligions, Baptist in paticular, are renowned for their large number of African American worshippers which is potentially the catalist for this whole racial issue. No Reiligion, not christian, not Babtist, not Methodist, has ever said that because you are black, or because you are white, that you cannot practice the reiligion. The fact that African Americans want to worship together does not mean they hate whites. The fact that whites want to worship together does not mean that they hate blacks. The idea people have concocted in this country that somehow because we have differnt culturs and want to be surronded by people with our views and ideas, that we hate people who differ from us is preposterous. It blows my mind how ignorant these critics are. African Americans and Whites are different! That doesnt mean they hate each other! men and women differ, do they hate each other? No!

Methodist and Babitists arent even really christian reiligions
