When all is said and done, our opinion on someone's beauty is too heavily influenced by the person they are on the inside to say that beauty is solely an external trait. Going by example, you see someone absolutely gorgeous or drop dead handsome, this is your first opinion of them before engaging in conversation with them, before getting to know them. Then, they open their mouth to talk and you get to see that they are the biggest jerk known to mankind. Almost as instantaneous as you determined they were attractive, your opinion on them begins to wane and you begin to see their level of attractiveness decrease, simply due to the fact that they have an ugly core.
The reverse can also hold true. There is someone who you don't do a double take on, they're just not someone who may be appealing enough to grab your attention right away.Come to find out, after you had the chance to see what kind of person they are, you begin to see them as someone beautiful.Their personality and character, both things that largely influence our operating system as humans, is something you find appealing, which in turn begins to affect your overall opinion of them, which is then that you realize how beautiful they have really been all along.
It all comes down to psychology.Sure, beauty is an external trait, but that's just it, it's a trait, not the end all determining factor.Beauty is based on opinion, whether someone thinks something is beautiful is based upon their tastes, no universal guidelines as to what beauty entails have been set.Sure, there have been studies, but it still comes down to what the beholder deems as beautiful. It can range from external factors that include someones eye color, to internal factors that include someones sense of humor. It is by no means something tangible, nothing concrete has been set to help us determine whether something is beautiful and it makes it that much harder to understand.
I will be the first to admit, Ihave a bad habit of judging someone by what I can see initially, sometimes preventing me from ever finding out about the things about that person that are unseen.Through enough proofto myself, I have accepted the idea that how someone looks may easily be influenced for better or worse by the person they are on the inside.I have met people who have the luck of having amazing genes, but after one conversation with them, I would be content having never met them, because their core is too volatile, selfish, or empty. Then therehave been people who aren't the most visually appealing person, but, their personality and character as a person was impressive and they became easier on the eyes to look at.
In the end, beauty will be in the eye of the beholder, but the motivations behind what we define as beautiful will always boil down to factors that are internal, factors that will enhance or deplete how appealing someones is physically.
