Working entails not only physical energy but also lots of brain power from the neurons. Although these brain cells are hardworking and do not get easily fatigued just like the rest of the cells in the body, they also need sufficient nutrients to be able to function properly.
Researches proved that workers who have bad eating habits have low productivity and decreased mental alertness.
Oftentimes, this is because workers skip meals or eat the wrong food. Fast foods are the easiest way for workers to eat; but these types of foods are rich with bad fats and increase the risk of developing coronary heart diseases.
Workers should be discerning and knowledgeable when it comes to selecting the food that they indulge in when they are at work because this would affect their work performance.
The following are good foods that are excellent for people at work who are conscious of their weight, diet and health.
Cereals or oat meals could appease those cravings for snacks.
Almost always offices have a hot water source. Cereals or oat meals are easily prepared just by adding hot water.
Oat meals are health foods; they are rich in fibers, vitamins and vital substances needed by the body. There are sachets available with each particular fruit flavor that you may want.
Be sure however to check the labels to avoid those that are high in salt content. Skim milk or non fat milk and a little of sugar could turn the oatmeal into a delicious snack or meal. Fresh fruits like bananas could also be added for flavoring,
2. Fresh fruits and natural fruit juices could be taken in anytime during the day.
Be sure that your fruit came from a trusted source because of the health dangers coming from food colorings. It is better if the fruit came from your own backyard or that of someone you know.
Wash them properly at home and cut them into small slices so you could eat them without hassles when the craving for sweets attacks you. You could also prepare fruit juices and place them in containers that you could bring to work.
3. Crackers could satiate your hunger for snacks.
Read carefully the labels of the crackers that you buy however, they should be low in fat and salt content. Bad fat increases the risk of cardiac ailments, while excess salt leads to hypertension and kidney diseases.
4. Herbal teas are also good liquids
Like fruit juices, herbal teas are good energy boosters. They are also health drinks rich in antitoxins and phytochemicals which are substances that could strengthen your immune system and fight cancer.
5. Water is the universal liquid.
The body is composed of 60 to 70 % water. You should drink water as often as you can; even more than 8 glasses a day. Water cleanses the body of many illnesses. It hydrates the cells and tissues so that they could perform efficiently the biochemical functions inside the body.
It is not impossible to eat right, even at the workplace. All it takes is awareness of which foods are good or bad; and then being resourceful and innovative enough to devise a means to have them with you at your workplace during meal times and snacks.
