Poetry: Veterans

by Chef Eric J. Means

Created on: October 03, 2008

A fine yet solemn morning tussled amongst autumns lisp. A gentleman aged 86 on a corner begging, desperately trying to pay in jest, the bills of weaning utilities he feels he must. Labor to pay the ransom demanded. How is this aged man to pay without laborwithout faith? Treason I believe it is to force an honored veteran to beg or lay. A debt of sacrifice in his past defrayed. Why has no one stood up to pay this honored man respect today? A creeping man of age and strength has bowed and put aside his pride instead. Brother John I walk in your stead to bring you aid and piece of mind. Do not fret you man of courage ahead. We owe you gratitude of depth insteadyou are forced to lead a life of uncertain breath. Understand that not only I confess that your situation is the naked effigy of a strong man that no longer should be left in a lurch or cracked bereft. Twenty dollars will surely not bring to you an end to bitter sacrifice of which you take as your life, and not an end. Be safe and no you that these things are left. I have seen you and known you my brother and friend a veteran soldier until the end.
