In order to answer the question, "Are we close to the battle of Armageddon?" we must understand several things in preface.

To begin, our Western understanding of Biblical texts is only partial and hazy, at best. Many concepts in the original Aramaic language are difficult, if not impossible to translate into the Western languages, most especially English. There is a great deal within the Bible which is simply mistranslated to begin with, so that is a pretty shaky foundation on which to build any argument for or against this Biblical scenario. Add to this fundamental flaw the fact that the Bible (which is a collection of writings by various authors over a tremendous period of time, some material even proved to be borrowed from far more ancient writings such as Sumerian texts) has been edited far too many times of which we know, (and there are probably far more than that of which we are not aware), by individuals who sought to control how religion affected the masses, and you have an undeniably faulty source with which to begin. Yet, begin we shall, with that which we have to work with.

First of all, most linguists and Biblical scholars generally agree that "Armageddon" is a corrupted-by-time version of Har Megiddo, which is an actual physical plain of battle just south of Haifa, which is currently the largest city in Northern Israel. Being the main gateway of trade and travel between the Kingdoms of the South (Egypt) and the Kingdoms of the North (Mesopotamia), a large number of great battles were waged on this location. It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte actually said that it was "the most perfect battlefield on the face of the Earth". And the history of this place is a long and bloody one. If anyone at almost any time in history, past or present, were to be thinking of where to hold the world's most magnificent battle in that area, that would be the chosen place.

Next, we might want to explore how literally we should take every single word in the Bible. I am not in any way trying to say that things in the Bible are not TRUE, but I am saying that our understanding of the people of the area and the atmosphere of the times is highly incomplete and distorted through our own cultural understandings, which are far different from those of these places and times. Much of what is being touted as spiritual metaphors are actually more likely to be political metaphors designed to communicate in a sense of code to other members of the intended target faction. Again, I am
