My Favorite Seasonal Pajamas

As the joy of the summer loses luster, and crisp falling leaves signal the oncoming shivers of autumn and winter, thoughts turn to reading long novels by firelight with a cup of tea, and wearing cozy flannel pajamas. As winter's tightly clenched fist releases the gentle warmth of spring, there's something liberating about storing your warmer flannels and donning airier cottons and silks. In my household, pajamas are key players in our wardrobes. We change into them almost immediately after returning home from work and community activities. For this reason, pajamas are also a coveted gift item, and have been a traditional Christmas Eve gift for the last 15 years. Collectively, my husband, my infant son and I maintain a collection of flannel pajamas, cotton sets, robes, footed pajamas, silks, and lingerie, each with their own particular purpose, season, and gifting value.

Two-piece flannel/cotton sets

Two-piece sets are a warm, modest solution for vacations, slumber parties, and camping trips. Flannels for fall and winter, and cottons for spring and summer are a perfect gift for any occasion, for people of all ages, and for men and women alike. These sets are the MVPs of my closet.

Robes

The luxurious feel of a thick, soft robe leaves no doubt as to why hotels across the country stock their closets with this complimentary treat. Most popularly given during the Holiday season, a robe can also make a romantic Valentine's Day gift.

Silk Pajamas

Suitable as a gift for an intimate friend or partner, silks are a soft and slippery gift for your skin, available as lingerie or more modest varieties.

Footed Pajamas

These pajamas are a nursery staple invaluable for young infants who need to stay warm in the winter, but shouldn't be overloaded with thick blankets that have the potential to restrict breathing and increase the risk of SIDS. Footed pajamas make a great baby shower gift, as they allow for unrestricted movement, prevent lost socks, and provide parental peace of mind.
