Why should they? Are they getting paid? Are they getting what they want? Is there a need or want that is being satisfied? OR does it actually make any difference? There are more then 7 Billion people on the planet, seperated into different groups based upon preference, nationality, religion and racial features. Each has a different political opinion whether they watch politics or not, then why don't they vote. The reason is not because some are unaware, NO, the reason is in the above questions.
This year the United States Citizens are scheduled to vote for their next president. Some think that McCain should take over, some suggest Obama but there are others that support none. What about the others then? There is no option for them. If their want is not going to be satisfied then why wait in a 2 hour cue just to cast a vote that has no meaning to you. If you look at it from a neutral prespective they both have the same policies, they both want the same thing for their country, they both oppose each other's idea, a congress of republicans and democrates will definitely form that will mostly oppose each other then why vote. It doesn't make a difference.
The United States is already a strong country so it does not actually matter, but there are the third world countries like Pakistan to which elections are much more important. The country underwent the assembly elections this year but only few actually voted. The main reason behind such unpatriotic act was that even if did they go, the same party would be elected. There are actually videos showing political gansters holding guns and threatining voters to elect the members of their choice. Then there is absolutely no reason to risk your life for a vote that would not count.
Then there is the motivation factor, for some waiting in two hours to cast a vote without getting paid is not an inspiration. They would rather sit at home, drink a cold drink and sit infront of the television. Why not use the holiday for something creative or entertaining then voting? There also some who would prefer to carry on with their business(es) and make crucial improvements. Some citizens are just o busy to even think about electing a president despite their political opinions.
The reason is pretty much clear, why vote when there is no motive to do so, or when your option can never be satisfied. If improvements are made to the voting system those who stay away from elections might actually step forward.
