In other words, help make your own luck by being at the right place. Don't live in Arkansas and dream about being in a soap opera. Go to the towns where they make them.

Failing the college route, you must go to the hub of the theatre world; New York or London. Enroll in actor's classes and begin to audition. This is absolutely the toughest way to go, because you have no background, except, maybe some high school stuff and therefore no resume of any value. It will involve going to all open casting calls for plays and knocking on agent's doors to get representation. Again, many a professional actor began by attending classes at The Actor's Studio and was discovered in that environment, but don't count on it.

This way is not for the faint of heart and you should only contemplate it if you are young, ambitious and willing to rough it. Because it will mean working at any job you can get, to pay for your rent, your classes, and food when you can afford it. And you must be willing to suffer much frustration and rejection.

Frustration; "We only accept acting submissions through a reputable agent."

Rejection; "We only take on new clients who have professional acting credits."

And around it goes until that one person gives you your chance. If you are lucky, and good enough.
