The comparison of college basketball to professional basketball is similar to any other comparison between college life and professional life, making money is glamorous, but college is more exciting. In college, everything is more uninhibited than it is in the regular world, and the same goes for basketball. College basketball has a better fan following, with fans painted, jumping and screaming at all of the crests and troughs of a college basketball game. Watching an NBA game, the game seems to become a monotonous series of back and forth movements across the courts. These men are making millions of dollars, they are set for life and it shows. Rarely, besides exceptions like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James do players ever exert as much energy in the NBA as they do in college. In college, players can be seen slapping the hardwood, and getting fired up after every basket. Rivalries Duke versus North Carolina are such spectacles I can only dream of seeing it in person. Personally, I am a Duke fan, so I enjoy pointing out the Cameron Crazies, a group who paints themselves blue and goes crazy every game. NBA fans are older and less enthusiastic about their team, it's more of a business in the NBA, which is less exciting. Other fantastic aspects of the college game include the thrill of buzzer-beaters. The Western-Kentucky shot vs. Drake last year had to be one of the most exciting sports moments of the year, I was crazy even though I had no affiliation with either squad. Also, seeing special players grow to fame, like Stephen Curry last year, or JJ Redick a few years ago. College basketball has its stars that keep the game interesting. Also, the NCAA season culminates in an always-exciting tournament, while the NBA has the same monotonous playoff set up that so many other sports share. I always look forward to march every year to fill out more than my fair share of brackets, and to see which teams rise and fall under the single elimination pressure of the tournament. By comparison, the NBA playoffs are incredibly drowned out, taking two months to complete, TWO MONTHS. The NCAA tournament only takes one month, and that takes into account the fact that teams can't play during the week because of school obligations. So what if NBA players are better, it's their job, being a job seems to remove the fun from playing basketball. This hasn't happened yet with college players. It's painfully obvious that college basketball trumps the NBA, the players play with more heart, passion, and exuberance.
