Alaska travel: Your northern adventure awaits

Are you tired of the usual ho hum holidays? Do you want a holiday with adventure at every turn? Then consider visiting Alaska. You can travel to Alaska by air, flying into all the major towns, or you can take an Alaska travel cruise out of the capital, Juneau. Either way you will see magnificent country, amazing wildlife and adventures will be awaiting you around every corner.

Fly into Fairbanks and take a trip to Denali National Park, which includes Mt McKinley, the biggest mountain on the North American continent. See grizzly bears, caribou, moose and other wildlife. Or fly into Juneau and take a cruise past awesome glaciers and see Killer Whales cavorting in the icy seas. Do you like to fish or hunt? Then Alaska travel is for you. Alaskan lakes and rivers are teeming with fish and some of the best hunting on the North American continent is to be found here. Mountain climbing, sled dog racing, Eskimo and Indian culture, the remains of Russian settlements, cabins in the wilderness inhabited by modern day pioneers, ultramodern cities with all the conveniences and culture found in the lower 48: Alaska travel has it all.

All modern comforts are available on the cruise ships or in Alaska's first class accomodations but you can also take your adventure to the next level by hiring your own car, and touring and camping in some of the wildest country left in the world. Alaska has long, warm summer days so you have plenty of time to explore. However even in summer, the nights can be cold so take warm clothes and a good sleeping bag if you plan to camp. If you are really adventurous you can get a travel map to Alaska and drive the Alcan Highway through rugged mountain ranges and breath-taking wilderness. Or simply fly in and explore the country with organised tours. The wildflowers alone are worth the trip in the late summer. Or if you are particularly adventurous, why not visit in the winter? You haven't lived till you have experienced the Northern Lights on a cold crisp Fairbanks night. Photographs cannot do justice to the Aurora Borealis, once thought by the Eskimos to be their ancestors playing ball games in the skies.

Alaska has numerous parks to explore. Denali is the oldest and most well known but there are others as well. Wrangell- St Elias NP is the largest park and contains wild mountainous country ideal for the adventurous backpacker. The Kenai Fjords NP and Glacier Bay NP are famous for their magnificent glaciers as well as wildlife. In addition there are numerous state parks and historical parks that preserve other habitats and places of historical significance. Alaskan history is an adventure in itself, from ancient Eskimo and Indian cultures to the churches and buildings of the Russian fur trading days to the great Alaska gold rush.

From the capital Juneau in the south to Nome in the west and Fairbanks in the north, Alaska offers you an unparalleled adventure travel experience. So if you want a vacation with a difference, think Alaska!
