A vintage wedding gown is able to be found by looking in various places. This article will describe how to start looking for the wedding gown of your dreams.
1. Look in the yellow pages under second-hand or consignment shops. Some people take wedding gowns to these places as either a donation or a way to resell the gown without putting forth a lot of personal effort. My sister found a vintage gown at a consignment shop. There were so many "used" clothing stores in my area. We checked them all. Goodwill and Salvation Army also take donations of clothes and then sell them in a store to make money for themselves.
2. Ebay is also a great place to look for just about anything. In fact I just performed a search on ebay, and I found plenty of dresses. Some are for Barbie dolls, so you have to watch what you find.
3. The best thing you could do is google vintage wedding gowns and see what comes up. I found this site that has many original gowns and some reproductions: http://www.vintagewedding.com/index.html I was looking at some gorgeous gowns that are available on this website. This is just one of many that I found doing a search under google.
4. If you are not happy ordering on-line or running all over in search of consignment shops, then try your local newspaper. There always seems to be a gown for sale. If there are none for sale, consider placing an advertisement for what you are looking for in a vintage gown.
5. Ask relatives. If you come from a family that has had a lot of women get married, chances are that some of them will have their gowns. You may be able to borrow or buy the gown from them, and make it into your own by altering what is necessary. Rember not to shock the relative when she comes to your wedding and sees her gown dyed fuscia. Let the relative know ahead of time what you plan on doing to the gown to avoid conflicts the day of your wedding or the day you return the gown you borrowed.
6. If all else fails and you just want the look of a vintage gown, then consult a seamstress who can design and make the gown of your dreams. It may not be a true vintage gown, but the look will be there. You will be a gorgeous bride no matter what.
In closing remember that you are going to find the gown of your dreams if you are willing to put forth some effort. With these tips, you should be able to get started. Good luck and best wishes on your dream wedding.
