Every working person spends the majority of their waking hours at a job...why not make it more enjoyable?
My "ideal workplace" would be an environment of support and culture while still displaying an air of professionalism and structure. A job is still a job and work needs to be completed. However, the freedom to complete tasks while still enjoying leisure activities is the best way to increase productivity and decrease the likelihood of an employee feeling "burn out" or disgruntlement.
The facility of my ideal job would house an arts and entertainment area for individuals to take a break with a snack and enjoy a show or listen to music. Each individual could choose an activity they wanted to do in order to relax and temporarily "decompress" before getting back to their duties. A fitness center would also be on site to help employees relieve tension and stress. Promoting health and wellness would aid in improvement of employees' lives and could significantly lower the amount of illness and infection that would keep them out of work.
For working parents, an on-site daycare center would be available for employees who could visit their children during a break or lunch. This availability of having close access to their children would bridge the gap that creates conflict for many working parents who are concerned that they are missing out on the important years of their child's development.
This ideal workplace would hold fundraisers and events to promote giving back to the community and instill a sense of pride in the employees. It is very important for employees to like what they do and respect whom they work for. Having access to quality systems and facilities within the workplace that make their lives better would definitely be an asset that would attract a growing and competitive workforce of individuals who would want to partake in this terrific opportunity. Good news travels quickly and many would clamor for a position with such a company.
Employee productivity and retention would not be a concern in my ideal workplace through a mutual understanding that these rewards are readily available to those who perform up to task. It would be great work with an even greater incentive.
