I don't think euthanasia of dogs and cats is always the right option. Mostly because this is practiced in all Animal Shelters and what I feel is that these people unnecessarily kill animals without always' giving them a chance of survival. There is a probability though, that they might be giving a ray of hope to that animal but from what I have seen, staying in New Delhi (India), I don't think that euthanasia is done in the rightful manner. Here what people (of shelter) regularly do is that they euthanize dogs and cats, when they feel like. Even if the animal stands a chance of survival, they won't give it, because of their "Who Cares" attitude. For them (I feel) it really doesn't matter which dog lives or dies, gets a home or remains homeless his/her entire life!

Euthanasia is also based on personal assumptions, for example person A' would feel it to be necessary to euthanize an animal, whereas person B' & C' won't. Euthanasia according to me should be the last option', though it always is, but mostly it's the first one' by what I have observed. Every animal has a right to live, and I feel the best should be done to save its life, if the animal is unwell. That's because tell me Would you euthanize a person who has lost one of his legs, or has Cancer or is suffering from Aids'.

As far as "Controlling Animal (Stray/Non-Stray) Population" is concerned I strongly feel that euthanasia should be nowhere in the picture as the only "accurate" option is the practice of Animal Birth Control Programme (ABC). Though keeping the layman's viewpoint that "euthanasia is far easier than the time consuming ABC programme", I sense to convey that euthanasia "KILLS" a living life, whereas ABC "prevents the birth of unwanted lives". ABC is just like you getting a vasectomy/tubectomy done!

Euthanasia by any name means the same- "Killing of a living being", you add "Humane Killing" or whatever you feel like, but the meaning does not change, neither changes the means, method and mode of doing it.

You can't ban or prohibit the practice euthanasia in any place or country (thought I wish it was), but the best way to avoid the so-called humane killing of animals is to adopt animals and keep them healthy so that never shall the need arise to kill your beloved companion animal '.

After all giving a chance to life is much more superior, than taking one away!

Think about it.
