Poetry: Depression

Alone

Into the blackness I stagger
Stumbling, falling
I can't find my way out
No one hears
My silent pleas
I scream as the blade slices through my flesh
Quieter than a cricket's chirp
Blood flows, crimson and warm
I don't feel any better
Needles leave bloody pricks
Candles swollen blisters
No one notices
Nor cares
Wandering alone through the dark
I call but you cannot hear me
I no longer know how to ask for help
I can't say:
Will you take my hand?
Will you lead me out of shadow?
No one hears my soul
Screaming in the swirling darkness
No one sees
That I'm lost and falling apart
So I bleed a little bit more
Another scar
To prove how imperfect I am
You don't see what I see
A wall of anger that can't be
Taken down
So I wander in silence
Through the black alone
I can't ask for help
You won't hear or understand
They forced me into silence
Long ago
If happiness and love exists
It's outside this wall of darkness
Those who read these words
Will wonder
Those who know me
Will not see
The silent tears and
The frightened child
That wanders far from home
Lost in the dark
Always Alone
