I know this personally because I being a Black American, marrying a Korean National was quite a challenge even though we were in love.
Exodus 23:32, 33 "You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods. They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you." These are clear words of wisdom.
In relationships such as friends, this principle also applies. For example if you do not use illegal drugs or drink alcohol one should not hang out with those who do, otherwise you will end up using yourself. A man told me once "If you hang out in a Barbershop long enough, you will get a hair cut."
Then there is the general thinking or spirit of those who have such addictions or questionable habits, or thinking, that is not similar to yours. Eventually you will think and act as they do. Like Mom always said. "Birds of a feather flock together." Or "If they jump off a bridge, will you?"
On the other hand, if you have a goal such as how to get rich, then you want to hang out with those who are rich, or trying to get rich, so that their thinking would rub off on you, even though you and they may not be equally yoked at the outset.
So in conclusion: You cannot choose your Family, but you can choose your partners. So choose wisely.
